How to open a closed path in Blender 2.6

Written instructions:

Let’s begin by creating a circle and converting it to a path.

Then we’ll take it into edit mode in order to change it to an open path. If you choose a single point, hit delete and pick “select”, then the control point will get deleted but the path remains closed. On the other hand if you select “segment”, nothing seems to happen.

The answer to making this a non-closed path is to select two points and pick segment from the delete menu. As you can see, the path is no longer closed but has instead distinct start and end points.
